Barbie Movie: 2nd viewing
Wellllll……
it’s even better the second time.
It’s even better when my partner, dear Jason, goes with me -and knew it all along.
It’s even better when I hear young girls having AHA! moments.
it’s even better when I hear the words: “that’s the most subversive movie I’ve seen in years !”
it’s even better when my own understanding widens.
it’s even better when I can see under the superficial and feel an ancient tear sliding down my face.
it’s even better when the nuances are brighter and clearer.
it’s even better to see the intention had nothing to do with selling a toy but rather to make a statement
And…… it’s even better when I see the uproar as an indication that under their loud bravado there is the fear that a movie about a doll just might be waking people up.
and it’s NOT better to know we have been in this dynamic for so long some folks feel it should never change.
yes, I am still talking about the Barbie movie.
I am mulling over the truth that this way of sending a world wide message might just make a difference ….. when others have stood for radical change and have been booed off stages for standing in their sorrow and rage.
Maybe I am seeing a ray of hope for the world, maybe my hope is unfounded, maybe my work in the world has me more vulnerable to the reality of how badly change is necessary.
Maybe…
This churning in my gut is what keeps wanting me to speak.
Maybe …
Maybe I want to grab this pink beam of hope and hold on for the precious lives of my granddaughters and those young people in their stages of becoming.
Even if you don’t go…..
Would you be willing to embrace the idea that the truth here —- delivered in this particular way —-
is a loud cry for more love in the world?
