Appreciations

Putting together a spoken word event requires a village. This performance wouldn’t have been possible without a network of dedicated individuals. Each contribution, whether big or small, played a pivotal role in the event’s success, and it would be remiss not to extend sincere thanks to everyone involved.

Recognizing these efforts reminds us that art is a shared journey, woven together by many hands and hearts.

In particular, I’d like to thank…

  • Jason Weston—support extraordinaire…. listening, encouraging, holding me when I thought I was crazy, too bold, too loud, not clear enough, too furious, holding me when I felt good about what I was up to…reflecting what he saw, believing in what I had to say, believing my heart was true and even coming up with the Death Knell title! THEN computer/tech magic, postcards, posters, this program, images, words, editing suggestions… getting my writing out of long-hand into type so I could use them. He was always a yes… with care and love in his eyes.

  • Christine Mchugh—19 months ago when I asked if she would be interested in this project… she said she got goose bumps all over… AND that she would be my greatest cheerleader and she would regularly kick my ass…and she did. She cut, she added, and listened to how I was in the process. She clarified, made suggestions and held my worries and shared her own experiences that moved both our hearts. She cared about me, my experiences and used the kindest sword to edit the unnecessary.

  • Jennifer De Ruff—your audacious suggestion that my “I am the Patriarchy” piece was a “performance piece” … OMG what you put in motion.

  • Robyn Mailman—my dear, dear water dragon sister…who encouraged, asked great questions and believed in me.

  • Sisters—Barb Godwin, Sue Sherer and Jade Sherer, my vision quest guide – for believing in me …every day even when I thought this had no purpose and no one would listen…and loving me when I felt lost.

  • Eileen Cavalier—listening, encouraging, highlighting and clarifying my thought processes.

  • Vic Campbell—cheering me on, giving perspectives, holding up my light.

  • Kimball Lane—ideas for venues and enormous heart holding…deeply believing in me.

  • Haje Kamps—who in a flash created an awesome website! I mean really in a few hours and totally captured my aesthetic.

  • Carolyn Brigit Flynn—my writing teacher since 2001… always expressing “I am the protector of your creative spirit” …and you were… you heard these thoughts and writings in their infancy.

  • My current writing group—supporting me when my rage and fury dominated everything I wrote despite the prompt and your heartfelt, clear and amazing reflections.

  • Ireland writing cohort—You listened to me flailing under the Irish sky and the upcoming show… supported me while I wrestled with the reality and the possibility. You heard my fire hose writing and gave amazing feedback.

  • HAI facilitators—Anne Watts loving me always, Barbara Musser for resonating with my fury, Felicia Williams Cosey raising our voices for women together, Tony Holmes encouraging me with love, Rich Walkden listening, believing in me, making me laugh when I doubted myself and being available to talk when I was discouraged, Jason Weston, you know…

  • John Hunter—believing in me as a loving warrior woman for 25 years.

  • The women’s group I led in Australia January 2024.

  • HAI friends, team members and the worldwide community for your curiosity, your love and your desire to hear me… too many to fit on this page—you know who you are.

  • Facebook friends—there are hundreds of you—who answered my posts with enthusiasm and hearts and likes.

  • Past HAI facilitators for fanning the flames in me to life—Sarah Sandhill, Peter Sandhill, Donna S Rengel, Peter Rengel, Chas August.

  • My Deep Heaven Burning Man camp—who believed in me enough to have me calling the Critical Tits ride for women year after year…

  • The teachers in my life who have been there for me along the way—Beth Pettengil Riley, Emily Conrad, Susan Harper, Philip Shepherd, Brian Swimme, Pamela Eakins, Jeanette Wright, Almut Hatfield, Rhett Hatfield, Dottie Jackson, Ellen O’Hanlon, Coleen Kiebert, Bill Plotkin, Annie Bloom, Peter Scanlon, Peter Scanlon, Kathy Williams, Carol Agneesens, body workers from everywhere, my Women Who Run with the Wolves group.

  • AND I want my three children to know how much I love them and how much I attempted to protect them from the hardships. ❤️
